More Info
This is the most comprehensive tour of the Teotihuacan Pyramids we have to offer. The aim of this tour is for you to enjoy the Teotihuacan pyramids while supporting the local economy through sustainable tourism.
Your whole visit will be hosted by locals who’ll guide you through Teotihuacan, host you in an obsidian workshop, share with you their homemade pulque and other food stuffs, and welcome you in their home for an authentic vegan (or vegetarian!) Mexican lunch.
PLEASE NOTE: This tour uses predominantly public transportation in order to give you a more local experience and reduce our carbon footprint.
– Meet your tour leader in Historical Downtown and take public transport to Mexico City’s north bus station
– Take a public bus to San Juan de las Piramides, home to the famous Teotihuacan Pyramids
– Meet your local, expert guide and embark on a 1.5-2 hour long tour of the Teotihuacan Pyramids
– Visit a family-run obsidian workshop that’s been operating for generations. You’ll taste an array of homemade products like salsa macha, marmalades, pulque (an agave fermentation and sacred prehispanic drink), mezcal, tequila, and much more
– Hungry? Don’t stress! You’ll be treated to an authentic vegan or vegetarian homemade lunch at a local family’s home.
– Go back to Mexico City on a public bus. Once back in the city, you’ll be dropped off by your tour leader at a central location
-Tlacoyos with grilled nopales (cactus). A tlacoyo is a stuffed dumpling that has been flattened into a football shape, grilled and topped with different vegetables. The fillings are ususally refried beans, fava beans or white cheese. This is a staple, prehispanic food that is loved by Mexicans everywhere
-Different agua fresca flavours like watermelon, orange, horchata, jamaica or guayaba. Agua fresca is made with fresh fruits and blended to make healthy, refreshing drinks
-Sopa de tortilla. A classic! Soup made from blended tomatos and an array of different chiles, slowly cooked with vegetable broth and topped with crunchy tortilla bits. Hearty and delicious!
-Arroz rojo. Another classic! Mexican rice made with carrots, onions, and garlic. The rice is made to soak up a mixture of tomato paste and other spices to create a mouthwatering version of regular rice
-Mixiotes de setas. Shredded oyster mushrooms cooked in an agave sheet, steamed and drowned in adobo, a flavoursome sauce made from a mixture of dry chiles.
– This is not only a Teotihuacan tour— it is an experience crafted for you to make real connections with the local community. You’ll be directly supporting local guides, family-run establishments, and generational businesses.
– Public transportation. We will travel on public transport everywhere, significantly reducing our carbon footprint. We combine public buses, metrobus, and walking on this adventure. It’s much more fun than a tourist van, anyway!
– Taste authentic, traditional, homemade Mexican food— all vegan and vegetarian!
