Animal & Wildlife Welfare Policy

The welfare of all our fellow earthlings is at the core of everything we do and stand for. There is no such thing as “sustainable tourism” if we don’t consider all the sentient beings that share Planet Earth with us. Furthermore, as an exclusively vegan & vegetarian tour company, the protection of wildlife and animals is an everyday endeavor at Travelling Herbivore.

We carry all activities that involve wildlife with the 5 tenants of animal protection and freedom as listed by the World Animal Protection. These are:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst. No living being should, under absolutely any circumstance, lack fresh water and food to keep themselves healthy.

2. Freedom from discomfort. Animals should always be in a comfortable environment according to their needs. No stress, forceful interaction or harassing should be tolerated.

3. Freedom from pain, injury or disease. Sentient beings should never be harmed in any kind of interaction. Activities that involve wildlife interactions or visits should always have wildlife’s well-being as a priority. If an animal displays signs of disease, this should be reported to the pertinent authorities in order to assist wildlife professionally.

4. Freedom to express normal behaviour. Wildlife chooses to approach us and interact if they feel like if. Humans must let wildlife complete their cycles, express emotion and never force them to comply with a specific wanted behaviour. Furthermore, humans should never condition wildlife to approach or interact with visitors via food or any other encouragement. WILDLIFE SHOULD STAY WILD

5. Freedom from fear and distress. Human visits to wildlife should never be a source of stress. All activities must be at the will of wildlife. All activities are subject to wildlife wanting to interact with us. Wildlife should never be encroached, chased, bothered, forced or harassed in any way, shape or form.
